The Puget Sound Section of the ACS will how their 10th Annual Career Event on February 12th from 1-5pm at the City of Tacoma Center for Urban Waters Research Lab. The theme for this year's event is Careers in Chemistry: Emphasizing Solutions to Environmental Challenges.
This career event is designed to expose students to potential science careers and is intended for all science students (not just chemistry majors). The event is free, but students must register by February 8th at http://pugetsound.sites.acs.org/careerevent2014.htm
There are 17 paid summer international research experiences for undergraduates that will occur in Germany, Italy, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. The program in open to US citizens & permanent residents who are enrolled in a US university or college. Applicants must be majoring in chemistry or the chemical sciences. This is a 10 week paid summer internship program for sophomores and juniors majoring in chemistry or chemical engineering. Applications are due December 14, 2013. Details can be found at:
SCI Scholars is an industrial internship program developed by the Society of Chemical Industry, the American International Group, the American Chemical Society, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
The ACS Scholars Program provides renewable scholarships (of up to $5000) to African American, Hispanic, and American Indian high school seniors or college freshman, sophomores, or juniors pursuing a college degree in the chemical sciences. Information can be found at:

Dr. Haglund will discuss his research from bench to bedside as Program Director of the Duke Neurosurgery Training Program, Director of the Duke in Uganda Neurosurgery Program, and Surgical Director of the Duke Epilepsy Center. Foundations of his work include clinical expertise and technical neurosurgery capabilities that help patients at the most complex and highest level, teaching, and caring for and giving back to those in need. Please join us for his talk. Students are especially encouraged to attend.

Chem Club and Bio Club are sponsoring a field trip to the
Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI)
in Seattle on Friday afternoon, September 20th.

Space is limited to three PLU vans. Vans will depart from the west side of Morken at 12:45 and return about 6:00 p.m. depending on traffic.
