9:30-10:45 a.m. - *Project Focus 2001 - It’s Graduation Time, What’s Your Next Step?

Round table panel discussion on entering the work force and unique opportunities available at the chemical interface.

10:45-11:15 a.m. – *Morning Break

11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – *Views from the Front Line: Celebrity Chemist Career Discussions

2-3:15 p.m. - *Working at the Chemistry Interface

Panel discussion with chemists whose jobs involve interdisciplinary and collaboratory work.

3:30-5:00 p.m. - Community Outreach Fair

SAACS chapters will present programs, demonstrations, and activities used to share chemistry with the local communities and schools. Abstract submission deadline March 16, 2001.

Saturday, June 16

8-9:30 a.m. - SAACS Group Chapter Meeting – Creating and Maintaining an Effective Chapter (Interfacing with Chemistry Students and Departments)

Four selected SAACS chapter presentations on effective chapter management in one of the following areas - membership and retention, fundraising, National Mole Day/National Chemistry Week, and communication/department interactions. $75 travel grants will be awarded to each of the selected chapters. Abstract submission deadline March 16, 2001.

9:40-10 a.m. - Morning Break

10 a.m. - 12 p.m. - Oral Presentations

Up to five undergraduates will be selected from the submitted research abstracts and invited to present a talk (20 minutes total – 15 minutes talk with 5 minutes for questions) on research activities that span the chemistry interface. $30 travel grants will be awarded to each presenter.

1:30-5 p.m. - * Tour of Biotechnology and Brewing Companies

Pre-registration required and lunch provided.

5:30-7 p.m. – *Careers in Biological Chemistry panel discussion with Nobel Laureate Edwin Krebs, M.D., University of Washington School of Medicine

SAACS chapters are invited to apply for three $100 travel grants. Applications are due March 16, 2001.
