NORM 2001 Tours and Special Events


  • King County Environmental Science Laboratory Tour:  Thursday June 14, 1:00-2:30

  • This tour will be on Thursday, June 14 from 1 to 2 or 2:30. The Laboratory provides comprehensive sampling and analysis services to support the protection ofpublic health and the enhancement of water quality in the region.  Specialists collect samples frommarine and fresh waters, industries, wastewater treatment plants and biosolids application sites. Scientists analyze those samples in the trace metals, trace organics, conventionals, microbiology andaquatic toxicology units of the laboratory.  The laboratory also assists project managers with QA/QCquestions, sampling design and project planning documents.  Visitors will be treated to a tour of all of these facilities.
  • The Experience Music Project   Thursday June 14, After 5-9 PM

  • Experiencing Music Project (EMP) is about exploring, experiencing and celebrating music. Whether you may be a fan of blues, jazz funk, punk, hip hop, rock and roll, or country music, you will find a chord at EMP!  You can explore the milestones not only of the music but also the music makers. You will see and experience the story of creative and innovative expression defining the American popular music. EMP features a collection of artifacts, technology, interactive presentation, and the unique architecture of Frank O. Gehry. Visitors of all ages and backgrounds will be able to experience the power and joy of music.
    Conceived by Paul G. Allen and Jody Patton, EMP  includes a largest collection of Jimmy Hendrix memorabilia. EMP’s collection includes more than 80,000 artifacts that helped shape the history of music and musical instruments. Among these are the guitars used by artists like Bob Dylan, Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters and Kurt Cobain, and extensive recorded sound archive, film, and photographs.
  • District Directors' Breakfast:   Friday, 7:30 AM, Campion Ballroom

  • A complimentary District Directors' Breakfast, hosted by Regional VI
    Director Glenn Crosby and featuring remarks by ACS President, Attila Pavlath, ACS Board Chair Nina McClelland, and ACS President-Elect Eli Pearce, will be held on Friday morning at 7:30 in the Campion Ballroom.  All registered attendees are urged to attend to hear about recent ACS Board of Directors actions and to discuss ACS membership ideas and concerns. 
  • Immunex Tour:  TOUR IS FULL.  Friday June 15, 2:00-4:00 (including a visit afterward to Pyramid Brewery) Cost for transportation:  $10.00

  • ACS attendees will have the opportunity to tour Immune's new robotics and protein chemistry labs.  The session will also include an overview of the research science with a focus on protein chemistry and biomolecular screening.  Immunex is a leading biopharmaceutical company that is dedicated to improving lives through immune system science innovations. They are headquartered in downtonwn Seattle and currently employ 1400 people.  This event will conclude with a stop at the Pyramid Brewery.
  • Tillicum Village:   Friday June 15, 5:45  – 11:00 pm;  Special rate of $55 per adult (normal price is $75).  Cost for children 5-12 years old is $25 and under 5 are free.  Children's tickets should be bought on site at NORM.  Boat Ride to Blake Island, Northwest Native American Cultural Show, and Salmon Banquet.
