Monthly Topshim 3D Procedure

A monthly 3D topshim procedure (2 options)

Option 1 for samples that are in water.

  • Put the sucrose sample in the instrument typically by hand or with the BACS using sx 2 and sx ej to return it to the holder.
  • Do not turn on spinning
  • Issue the lock command as follows:
lock h2o+d2o
  • Start the 3D shimming using the command below. It usually takes around 20 minutes to complete. You may well wish to repeatedly run this command 2-4 times to optimize the shim settings.
topshim 3d
  • When finished write the shim data to a shim file with the YEAR MONTH DAY at the end, e.g., "txi_20151101.shim". This procedure allows for us to monitor changes in the magnetic field and may be useful in future diagnostics.
wsh txi_20XXMMDD.shim
  • After saving the data to a dated file, then you can update the live shim file. The currently defined shim file for the IconNMR is txi.shim. For the TXI probe used typically in automation, the command is below.
wsh txi.shim
  • If you would like to view the shim data, you can use this command.

Option 2 for organic samples which may be more effective.

  • Put the 40% dioxane in C6D6 sample in the instrument with the BACS using sx 5 and sx ej to return it to the holder.
  • Do not turn on spinning
  • Issue the lock command as follows:
lock c6d6
  • Tune and match for this sample:
	atma
  • Start the 3D shimming using the command below. It usually takes around 20 minutes to complete. You may well wish to repeatedly run this command 2-4 times to optimize the shim settings.
topshim astm 3d
  • When finished write the shim data to a shim file with the YEAR MONTH DAY at the end, e.g., "txi_20151101.shim". This procedure allows for us to monitor changes in the magnetic field and may be useful in future diagnostics.
wsh txi_20XXMMDD.shim

Note: Only using the topshim gui can you shim with Z6. Z6 can be useful for correcting low level foot of the peak which can show up several ppm down field. It can be tricky to notice.
