Metalation of 1-bromo-3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzene by iPrMgCl at 0°, followed by reaction with NaBF4 afforded 1·xH2O. The obtained material was recrystd. as a hydrate and rigorously dried over P2O5. Accurate anal. of the water content of these samples by 1H NMR was accomplished by using dimethylzirconocene Cp2ZrMe2.
